Let’s take a look at several trends in technology that will impact the future of librarians and information specialists. This afternoon we’ll get an expert-level view of the technology that’s just around the corner, and that may fundamentally affect librarians and their work. Introducing Jason Griffey, American librarian and technologist, who will speak about these technologies and about what they means to the future of librarians.

In his presentation Jason Griffey will cover topics such as:

  • AI and machine learning impacts on the near-future of the information ecosystem
  • Decentralization of communication technologies and the blockchain
  • The Internet of Things & the World Robot
  • Bias, Ethics, and the threat of security failure for ourselves and our patrons

In addition he will discuss how these topics led him to build two different open source projects for libraries; The LibraryBox Project ( and the Measure the Future Project (, and how both of these relate to what he sees as the future of the profession.

The goal of this Masterclass will be to paint a picture of the technologies that will have the largest effect on the work of librarians and other information professionals, so that we can prepare for the future that is on the way.

The Masterclass will be structured as series of micro-lessons that come together into a central point and will give us the possibility to discuss a variety of new near-future things.
